Nerikomi Pottery Workshop

📅 12, 19 and 26 February 2026 (3 days) | ⏰ 10am–4pm | Cost: $350 | 6 places available

Discover the beauty of nerikomi pottery, a Japanese technique where coloured clays are layered and patterned to create stunning, one-of-a-kind designs.

Colouring the clay

This three-part workshop will take you through the full process:

  • Day 1: You’ll dive into colour and form as you tint your clay and build a richly patterned nerikomi block from coloured coils. The block needs resting to equalise moisture content.
  • Day 2: On this day you’ll create a slab from the nerikomi block you built on day 1. And then you’ll create one or more pieces from your slab. Your objects will undergo their first firing, and will ready for glazing on day 3.
  • Day 3: The unveiling! You’ll lightly sand your objects, which have been fired in the kiln. Finally, you’ll glaze your pieces to add depth and brilliance, before it returns to the kiln for its second firing — emerging as finished, one-of-a-kind artworks.

Half-day Sgraffito Summer Workshops

In January, you can book into a short and sharp half-day sgraffito workshop, where you’ll carve and scratch a pattern of your own choosing into a leather-hard cup or oval dish. You’ll experiment with underglazing and sgraffito techniques to create a truly unique piece. You’ll also choose your final glaze colour and decide where the glaze will be applied — we’ll take care of the glazing for you.

After around a week, your piece will be finished, glazed, and ready for pick-up (or mailing if needed).
