This workshop is the perfect starting point for anyone who wants to experience stained glass from scratch. You’ll create a stunning ornament featuring a New Zealand native bird, while learning the Tiffany stained glass technique—a timeless method of crafting intricate, colourful designs.

From cutting and grinding glass to working with your pattern, foiling, and soldering, you’ll be guided step by step through the entire process. By the end, you’ll have your own handcrafted ornament and the skills to keep creating with confidence.

Stained glass is more about technique than force. If you let us know in advance, we’ll include the best style of glass cutter for you in your toolkit. We’ll also share tips for safe, efficient cutting methods to reduce strain—so you can focus on enjoying the process.

How it works: Registration, Purchase Process, and Toolkit Hire

• First, register to create your account in the online learning space. You can do this by clicking on the ‘buy now‘ button. A login pop-up appears, where you’ll have the option to register if you don’t have an account.
• Once you’ve done that, log in and ‘purchase’ the online course to go through the checkout process. Don’t worry — you’re not paying anything at this stage. This step simply lets us collect your details so we can get in touch and help you choose:
  • which native bird you’d like to create
  • your glass colours
  • the tools and instruments you’ll need.

• After that, we’ll send you an invoice that includes your course fee and the cost of your personalised toolkit.

• Once you’ve paid the course fee, we’ll prepare your personalised toolkit and send it straight to you.

• Your Full Toolkit Hire includes everything you need: glass, copper foil, solder, and all the essential tools (glass cutter, pliers, soldering iron, etc.).

• Toolkit Bond ($275 max.): Once the instruments are returned in good order, your full bond is refunded. If you’d like to keep some tools, we’ll adjust the bond accordingly.
