About
From a young age, I was drawn to creativity, illustrating my school’s newsletter and later choosing a career rich in creativity and media. My background in educational science and technology gave me the chance to work on the development of learning resources, and I developed a special interest in using technology to enhance learning. However, as my career progressed, I found myself moving away from creative production and more into strategic and policy roles in learning, teaching and development.
A few years ago, I decided to bring creativity back into my life and began a five-year arts programme at the Art Academy of Friesland. Immersing myself in hands-on artistry was transformative; I loved returning to a tactile, expressive practice that encouraged exploration and experimentation.
Having lived in three countries—The Netherlands, New Zealand, and Australia—my work is shaped by the diversity and natural richness of each place I’ve called home. The countless moves and new beginnings are woven into my art, bringing a sense of reinvention and exploration into each piece.
My work is diverse, reflecting my love for experimentation across mediums and techniques. Graphic art holds a special place for me, and I even had the availability of a little press for a time. I’ve explored acrylics on wood, paper, and canvas, worked with mixed media, and crafted my first bronze sculpture. My journey led me to buy a kiln to dive deeper into ceramics, though living off-grid has put this on hold due to energy constraints.
Recently, a neighbor gifted me a spinning wheel, which—together with wool from our two sheep—has sparked an interest in hand-spinning my own yarn. A new idea for weaving has been taking shape in my mind, reflecting a growing interest in the intertwining of natural materials and storytelling in my work.
Each piece I create is a journey, a testament to exploration, and a celebration of the endless potential in art.
Tutoring and delivering art workshops bring together my worlds of creative practice, learning design and professional development. Helping others develop as artists is a natural extension of my commitment to both education and art, and sharing creative techniques allows me to guide others in discovering their own artistic journeys.
